Intro to Comedy Writing
Rich shares insights and techniques from his 30 years experience in comedy and late night TV (SNL, MADtv, Key & Peele, The Tonight Show) and from having written five resident company shows for Second City in Chicago. Students will learn comedy essentials: how to write jokes, how to brainstorm and pitch, about story structure, how to use proper format and write a scene as well as how to contribute to other students pitches, a valuable writers’ room skill.

Learn game-based improv
Learn the basics Game Based Longform Scene Work in improvisation, emphasizing pattern recognition in order to make strong, intentional comedic choices. Completion of CATCh PT2 or equivalent is required.

Learn How to Play Improv Games
Each week, students will be introduced to improv games, many of which you have seen on Whose Line is it Anyway? In addition to learning the games, students will play big characters, understand the importance of topical references, and build skills to host and edit games! If you have a desire to get up on stage and play bold and silly characters, all while making an audience laugh...this class is for you.
